Lipstick Heaven

It’s a very personal choice and one that many women & Brides struggle with. A lot of brides are not lipstick wearing lovers and prefer to wear gloss but for your wedding day it’s best to wear a lipstick as it lasts longer than gloss and you won’t need to reapply it so often.

Here I have just a small selection of lipsticks that have been popular with my brides and they range in colours and textures.

Inglot Liquid Lipstick in Matte finish:

A creamy consistency which dries to a matte finish leaving lips looking perfect for hours, very little touch up needed and didn’t flake or make lips look dry or cracked when I tested them.

Inglot Matte liquid lip tint #11

A gorgeous pink/coral lip colour if you want to have a pop of colour on your lips but it’s not overwhelming. A pretty shade which will enhance your lipshape and give your make up extra definition.

Inglot liquid lip tint matte #12

A pretty pinky/red shade for those more daring brides. Perfect for a vintage look along with simple eye make up and a statement lip.

The Balm, Ima Goodkisser:

One of my popular coral/pink lipsticks. It’s moisturising and has lots of pigment so very easy to apply and great for lips which are prone to dryness.

The Balm,Mai Billsbepaid :

The perfect nude for Irish skin tones, pretty shade with moisturising properties and a creamy, satin finish.

Catrice,Luminous Lips,#170:

For the bride who wants more colour and is used to wearing a stronger lip colour. This is like a glaze lip colour so perfect for dry lips but will need to be reapplied more regularly compared to a matte lipstick.

Wet n Wild 912c:

One of my more popular deeper nudes with brides. Adding more depth and because of it’s consistency it will have more staying power.

Mac, Angel:

A timeless bridal pink lipstick and is still very popular for a pretty yet understated lip for the classic bridal look. Because it is a frost finish it will give a sheen to the lips and also great for dry lips.

Mac, Velvet Teddy:

A cult lipstick associated with Kylie Jenner as this was her staple lipstick before she produced her own line of lipkits. It is a deeper nude lipstick with great staying power and pigment so won’t need as much touch ups compared to a gloss or a frosted finish.

Clinique,Blushing Nude:

A gorgeous classic creamy nude shade with a slight sheen to it for a more natural bride.

Mac,Creme Cup:

A classic nude favourite with Mac lovers gives your lips the nude look without being to orangey or overdone. This is complemented very well with a gloss applied over it. Perfect for someone who chooses a very dramatic eye look.

Mac,Hot Gossip:

A pretty pink which is a cremesheen finish. Lovely on the mother of the bride also. Because it’s a cremesheen it will not be drying on the lips.

Mac,Fabby:

A pinky brown lipstick. Very popular for the bride who wants a pinky/brown lipstick which isn’t too daring or bright. It has a frost finish so not drying on lips but has the appearance of a creamy lipstick.

YSL Rouge Voupté Shine:

A clear moisturising lipstick which treats and cares for your lips when you apply it. Great on its own to add moisture to dry lips or over a matte lipstick or lipliner to add shine and dimension to lips making them appear larger.

Mac,Pure Zen:

A gorgeous soft creamy peach nude lipstick for those who want a soft kissable lip without too much drama. This is a very easy to wear colour and is gorgeous teamed with a brown smoky eye and coral peach blusher.

Charlotte Tilbury, Nude Kate:

A gorgeous nude with orange/peachy undertones. Gorgeous on tanned/swallow skin and beautiful packaging when you pull it out of your bag to top up your lipstick.

Charlotte Tilbury, Matte Revolution,Between the sheets:

This pink/coral is one of my new found favourites for brides who want a pink which is soft enough for their wedding day. It is matte so will last longer than a cream or frost lipstick.

Rimmel, Kate Moss #45:

I’m so happy I found this lipstick it has been a huge hit with my clients who hate lipstick but need a slight colour on their lips. It is a soft pinky brown and so easy to wear. It suits everyone and is even more gorgeous with a pop of gloss on top.

CATRICE #440,

A pretty pink which is the perfect choice for brides or anyone who likes a deeper pink. This would be best suited for people with fuller lips and quite a natural eye make up look. It’s a creamy consistency and although it won’t dry out your lips don’t expect it to be long lasting.

The Balm
, Meet Matt(e) Hughes, Long Lasting Liquid Lipsticks:

Sincere, A fabulous mix of a nude with a Mauve/pink/brown hue which gives the lips definition without being too dark. Lasts approx 4hrs+ Gorgeous alone or with a dab of gloss in the centre of the lower lip.

Adoring, A deep, rich, luxurious red with wine/burgundy base. Not for the faint hearted. Would suit a darker skin tone perfectly and would be stunning with a nude lined eye make up look. Would best suit larger fuller lips and not for dry flaky lips as it dries to a matte finish. Again you can expect it to stay put and not transfer for at least 4hours.

Chivalrous, A bright Barbie pink. I’ve had a few brides who will opt for a statement lip and this would be just amazing for that look. It really is as bright and beautiful as you see it here. Not for the faint hearted. You need confidence and flawless make up to pull this off. It really is such a beautiful shade for a summer wedding or a girls night out. Will last 4hrs+ but will need to be reapplied after eating/drinking etc.

And last but not least my budget favourites:

Penneys P.S. Liquid Lipsticks:

PS Liquid Lipstick #15 Nude:

€2.50 available from Penneys and this is very popular it’s mostly always sold out and impossible to get your hands on. It is a very wearable nude lipstick with quite a tacky, sticky finish so will not be drying and if you lose it you won’t be devastated.Ive used this on top of high end lipsticks to make the lipstick three dimensional and to add the illusion of volume to the lips. A must have for everyone.

PS Liquid Lipstick #02 Peach:

I’ve had many a bridesmaid fall in love with this and just in shock that this is from Penneys. It’s such a gorgeous peach and so pretty on the lips. And at only €2.50 it’s amaze value.

CATRICE, Volumizing Lip Booster:

I stumbled upon this when I was waiting for my prescription and playing with the testers on the CATRICE stand and was drawn to it. I have used it on every make up application since and everyone has loved the smell, taste and slight tingling sensation it gives to plump your lips. It’s quite a subtle pink so it would go over any lipstick, liner or gorgeous on its own for kissable soft glossy lips. available nationwide and only €3.99.

Highlighter Heaven

I adore highlighter popped on the high points of the face as part of my make up applications. Some clients love the “see from space” highlighting whilst some go for the “gentle glow look” whatever the desired effect I have accumulated a lot of products to achieve any highlighting look.

I have my all time favourite Mary Lou-Manizer from The Balm which I got in Make Up For Ever. This is just beautiful and so fine it can be used on mature skin as the particles are so fine it gives the skin a healthy glow without being too glittery and the packaging is so pretty.

MAC Soft N Gentle is my other favourite and has been for quite some time. I love this over eyelids to brighten up a dull eye or applied to inner corner of the eye to open eyes up. Gorgeous on cheekbones, down the nose or on Cupid’s bow to make lips appear fuller & it lasts ages too.(I’ve had this one a year & need to restock).

LULU from the Pippa Palette is just so pretty and applied with fingers will give you a subtle glow or built up with brush will give you a more defined effect.A gorgeous highlighter you can wear anywhere you want to draw attention to.

Glow from CATRICE is a brilliant budget buy and has sold out everywhere, stockists are finding it impossible to keep in stock as most highlighters are in big demand at the moment with everyone wanting to try it out themselves.

Buff Sheer Glo Movie Star is a liquid highlighter which illuminates skin and when applied under foundation it gives the skin a glow. If applied over foundation the look is more striking and set with a loose powder to keep it in place and last for the day.

Benefit Highbeam has been a staple in my kit since it was released and I still pull it out from time to time for a subtle look, it helps make dry/dull skin look luminous and glowing. I mix with foundation and apply with a brush.

MAC Shell cream eyeshadow is up there in my cream favourites as it has a gorgeous pinky hue and flattering shimmer. Gorgeous on cheekbones, down the nose and even on your décolletage.

MAC Pearl cream eyeshadow is a whiter version and best suited to Ivory/paler complexions. Easy to blend and handy for travelling as it’s a cream, so it won’t shatter if you drop it.

Golden Goddess Shimmering Dry Oil from Cocoa Brown is a gorgeous highlighter for tanned sallow skin types. It can be used anywhere on face or body to accentuate your best features be they your legs, collar bones, slim arms or shoulders.

Charlotte Tilbury Wonder Glow, instant soft focus beauty flash is a gorgeous light liquid highlighter with a yellow/golden tone. Lovely under foundation for a subtle glow or over foundation for a more dramatic effect.

Vita Liberata capture the light skin perfecting illuminisor Latte is amazing on dark tanned skin, better than a BB cream it gives soft focus for lines and wrinkles, whilst creating an optical illusion as it’s subtle shimmering particles “capture the light”.

Catrice Blush Artist shading palette shade: 010 BronzÉclat the highlighter included in this nifty palette is more of a peachy tone and perfect for anyone with dull skin needing a lift as it’s so subtle and forgiving, perfect for a first timer to highlighting.

Make Up Brush Care

How you treat your make up brushes will determine their longevity. I have always been scrupulous about keeping my brushes clean since my days in Make Up For Ever when I was 16 and did my work experience there. Annie was always great at teaching me all her tricks and her attention to detail has had a lasting effect on me.

My time with M.A.C. Also made me hygiene conscious as the cleaning routine we had at the end of our day always sticks with me. We used to clean each and every lipstick, eyeshadow, faoundation thoroughly with Alcohol, cotton buds, tissues and Kitchen roll it really was an incredible routine we had going. Brush washing was never any of our favourite thing to do but two of us were always put of brush washing duties and this was a job in itself.

We used to wash the make up brushes with M.A.C. Shampoo and conditioner and these brushes always held their shape and quality.

I still wash my brushes with Shampoo or Fairy Anti-Bacterial washing up liquid and once a month I will condition the natural haired brushes to keep them soft.

This cute little “Brush Egg” was sent to me by the lovely girls in The Beauty Deli and it definitely does speed up the brush washing routine.
 *My Top Tip*

Make sure you rinse the brushes thoroughly though as they wont dry properly and the residue will effect blending performance of the brushes.

Always lay the brushes flat to avoid the ferrule or handles getting wet as this can effect the glue holding your brushes together.

On-Spot-Brush-Cleaners:

I have tried lots of brush cleaners and my favourite would be the brush cleaner from M.A.C. €15.50 As its fast drying, so I can use at weddings or shoots and don’t have to wait long for a brush to be dry.

A good budget buy would be the Penneys brush cleaner for €2.50 or Flormar brush cleanser €4.95

Surgical spirits are great for lip and liner brushes as it removes the waxy build up from lipsticks or glosses and removes gel eye liner fully even Inglot #77 Gel Liner!!

How often should you clean your brushes:

*Eyeshadow, blush and bronzer powder brushes should ideally be washed once every two weeks.

*Brushes that are used to apply liquid make-up like concealer, foundation, lipstick, or gel liner should be cleaned after each use, as when a brush gets wet, it can easily breed germs

*Cleaning brushes regularly also ensure that there is no product build up either which can makes it harder to apply your makeup flawlessly.

Super Natural Home remedies for Skin & Hair

Super Natural, Home remedies for skin & Hair

1.Super exfoliating mask:

All you’ll need to do is add 1 teaspoon of honey to 3 tablespoons baking soda. Squeeze the oil out of 3 to 4 Vitamin E capsules to the mixture and add 3 to 4 teaspoons milk (or water if your prefer) and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.

Gently work the mixture into your skin in a circular motion, then allow to dry for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse off with water, again using a circular motion for more exfoliating action.

Are you tired of having dark eye circles? Try this DIY:

Chop and crush a sprig of mint leaves and apply to dark under eye circles for 20 mins. before rinsing. Mint can get rid of dark circles under the eyes, improve skin tone, and it feels refreshingly cool when it is applied. Just do this twice a week and you will see the difference!Home remedies for skin & Hair-01Home remedies for skin & Hair-02Home remedies for skin & Hair-03

2.Make sure your skin is fighting the dryness with this DIY Lavender Coconut Oil.

All you will need to do is mix 2 cups coconut oil, 1 cup Epsom salt, and 20 drops Lavender essential oil. Store it in a container with a tight-fitting lid until ready to use.

This will surely work wonders during your next bath!

3.Make your skin glow with an easy home remedy in 5 min.

Here’s the recipe: 3 TBSP baking soda 1 TBSP water mix together well.

Just apply to face in a circular motion and let sit for five minutes. Gently rinse off with warm water and say hello to healthy, glowing skin! Simply do this once a week!

4.Try a coconut, milk, & honey serum for hair growth and shine!

Just whisk the ingredients together and pour the mixture into an empty hand soap container for an easier distribution of the treatment.

Apply by massaging your scalp for at least 2 minutes, this will stimulate blood flow to the scalp and help nourish it. Leave it in for an hour, or if you’re in a rush, leave it on for no less than 30 min. Finally shampoo and final rise with cold water.

*Your hair will feel greasy at first, but after you let your hair dry it will look shiny, hydrated, and soft.

Do this once a month or once a week for people with really dry hair, and you will reap the rewards!

5.Suffering from dead ends?

Don’t give up on them just yet! This is especially helpful for girls who bleach/ombre their hair.

1. Heat a cup of olive oil on the stove until its hot, but not hot enough that it will burn your skin.

2. Grab your hair in your hand like a pony tail, and lower it into the olive oil, allowing the oil to saturate your unhealthy ends

3. Carefully over a sink, slowly pour the rest of the olive oil on your scalp, and comb through your hair. Massage your hair and scalp to evenly distribute the oil

4. Clip your hair up out of the way and let it sit for 15 minutes.

5. Thoroughly shampoo and condition your hair to finish the process.

Repeat this process once a week for healthier, thicker, faster growing hair!

6.Try this protein hair mask to restore and nourish those locks!

All you will need is:

1 Tablespoon Olive Oil

1 Egg Yolk

1 Cup WARM Water

1. Make sure your hair is freshly washed & detangled. Also, pat hair with towel to soak up moisture.

2. Mix all ingredients together.

3. Apply to damp hair. {The best way to do this is to use a bottle with a small opening at the tip and distribute throughout hair.}

4. Once mask is applied, run a comb through your hair to be sure the mask is evenly distributed.

5. Let sit for 30 mins.

6. Rinse hair with warm water & shampoo & condition as normal.

This mask creates healthy, smooth & shiny hair that has more body than before as well as encourages hair growth!

6.Want longer eyelashes? Try out this serum to help them grow.

Just mix 1/4 of aloe vera gel, 1/4 castor oil, and 1/2 vitamin E in an empty container and apply with an old, but clean mascara wand. Follow up by cleaning your lash line with a cotton bud. Repeat this every night before going to bed and you should see results in a month! Enjoy and good luck!

7.Treat yourself to a mid-week spa session at home with this DIY Healing Detox Bath!

Just mix 2 cups of Epsom salt, 1/2 cup of raw apple cider vinegar, 1/4 cup of baking soda and a few drops of lavender essential oil in a warm tub and soak your cares away.

8.Take coffee grinds with olive oil, and make into a paste.

Massage well into the area with stretch marks for about 5 minutes. Then take a hot towel, and wrap it around the area for about 20-25 minutes. Remove and wash off with warm water. Also, when you are finished, apply a moisturizer to the area. The olive oil with the caffeine in the grinds, will help stimulate the area to remove the stretch marks. If you do this 1-3 times a week, you will start to notice a difference within 2 weeks!

Hi Teodora, What skin care regime do you use morning & evening?

Every morning I wash my face with cold water, then cleanse with Vichy Purete Thermale calming cleansing solution, then I use La Roche-Posay soothing toner for sensitive skin & finish off by moisturising my face with La Roche-posays toleriane ultra face cream, which Is made for allergy prone skin. In the evening I would do the same but instead of the face cream I would use Weleda’s skin food face cream. I like using skin care that is as natural as possible.

Favourite make up brand? Mac

It makes me feel more confident on days when I have a bad skin day I don’t like wearing a lot of make up but nice brows, mascara & a little concealer I like!

And lastly what’s your favourite make up look? Natural & glowy skin, Also low the bare eye & strong lip look!

Designer or high street clothes? I think a mixture of both! But I love high street.

Foundation tips

Have you ever bought foundation from a counter only to realise it’s too dark for you? Or find that you need a lighter foundation in winter but don’t want to buy several different shades?01

My solution for this is…. White foundation! Simply mix up some of your existing foundation and add a few drops of white foundation until you reach your desired perfect match. Do a swatch test on your jaw line to make sure there is no difference between face and neck and avoid the mask effect!

White foundations are available from M.A.C. Cosmetics in Brown Thomas and Illamasqua available from DebenhamsIRE.

02

To make your foundation last longer apply a primer first. Primers make the skin smoother and can help diminish small lines and open pores to help you achieve a more flawless looking finish.

To get the most out of your foundation an economical tip is to apply foundations with clean hands & blend with a foundation brush as sponges can absorb a lot of your products and be very wasteful!

Celebrity Apprentice on TV3

Celebrity Apprentice on TV3 has hit our screens with a bang and there are personality clashes all over the place.

The issue is that they are all very strong individuals and successful in their own right.

My favourites are Amanda Brunker, Journalist,Author,Former Miss.Ireland and Mum to two boys.

And Daniella Moyles, Model & T.V. Presenter who recently did an interview with me disclosing her secrets to her perfect brows, skin and make up. I was delighted Daniella won the first challenge as Project Manager and donated the cash to Friends of St.Lukes as they helped my family when my Aunty Dolores passed away in St.Lukes earlier this year & Myself,my Mum and my cousins and their friends raised money for St.Lukes at the Flora womens Mini Marathon.

I have worked with both Amanda and Daniella and they are both gorgeous people with very different personalities.

Both are in my eyes winners but who will win? I guess we will just have to watch every week to find out!

Steve Burke Photoshoot – Look 2

We had such fun creating two different looks for Sinead a few weeks ago and as a crew we worked together very well.

And as usual Steve’s photos are gorgeous.

For this make up look I went darker, more feline and almost ballet-esque with the make up.

A full list of products used for make up,hair and nails will be posted here on the blog very soon.

Water Wipes – A kit essential

I’m loving using these wipes on set,at shoots, weddings and because they are natural and suitable for sensitive skin I’ve even been using them at home on my daughter too! Great for removing make up, taking the bulk from make up brushes before using brush cleaner(economical).

Ann-Marie Carey Makeup - Ireland - Dublin - 02

Perfect bed side table essential for those late nights when you are too tired to do your skin care regime in your bathroom. A swipe with a Water Wipe will remove your make up so you can sleep guilt free and avoid waking up with the panda eye look!

Ann-Marie Carey Makeup - Ireland - Dublin - 01Ann-Marie Carey Makeup - Ireland - Dublin - 03

Water Wipes are made in Ireland so that’s another reason to try them for yourself.

Water Wipes are available in supermarkets and pharmacies throughout the country.

Wow Brown

I just love receiving goodies in the post and cannot wait to try this out. I’ve heard so much about Wow Brown and now I’m so happy I get to try it out myself in the comfort of my own home.

It’s exactly what I need as winter has set in and my pale skin has become even paler.

Ann-Marie Carey Makeup - Ireland - Dublin - 01

I’ve tried lots of false tans in my time and I’m extremely fussy about application, wearability, how the tan fades and how long it stays perfect so will be giving Wow Brown my undivided attention in preparation for going out this weekend.

Review on Wow Brown will be posted early next week

Bella Pierre Make Up Review

For the past few weeks I have been using these gorgeous products on clients on shoots, weddings and debs make up applications.

And it’s safe to say that I am in love with them.

The mineral foundations are so soft and light on skin and I was surprised by the coverage that can be achieved when using my Blank Canvas foundation buffer brush to apply it.

The loose powder blushes and bronzers are so pretty, the colours are so universal and I’m loving Autumn Glow applied to apples of cheeks with my Real Techniques blusher brush, it gives a flush of youthful colour to the base and lifts even the tiredest of my clients.

Bella Pierre Make Up Review - 01 Bella Pierre Make Up Review - 02 Bella Pierre Make Up Review - 03 Bella Pierre Make Up Review - 04 Bella Pierre Make Up Review - 05

The Catwalk lipstick is so fantastic to have in my kit as the colour suits everyone and when the clear Bella Pierre gloss is added I achieve the most kissable youthful lips on each client.

The eye shadow powder stack is just brilliant and I especially love the range of colours and “champagne” is just so beautiful when applied to inner eyelid to make any accompanying eye shadow pop!

The fact that these products have absolutely no chemicals is even more reason to have them in my vast kit of Make Up and I will say it again I love them!

Real Techniques Make up Brushes

Great quality Make up Brushes are vital when it comes to applying make up. It’s the difference between shedding hairs on your models faces or scratchy harshness from cheap bad quality brushes. I have a vast array of brushes in my kit from Mac Cosmetics, Smashbox and Shu Eumura and have just had the opportunity to try these beauties from Sam Chapman’s Real Techniques range which are available on line or in Boots stores.

Real-Techniques-Ann-Marie-Carey-Makeup-Ireland-Dublin-011-150x150

The softness, bristle quality and durability is so great even after constant washing and cleaning they still look brand new.

Clients have mentioned how lovely the brushes feel against their skin and I’ve had emails asking about them.

What skin care regime do you use morning & evening?
I always cleanse, tone and moisturise morning and night, I love simple & nivea products and I use a serum from Aldi under my moisturiser it’s amazing!

Do you have a must have skin care item?
My must have item would be sudocream for any blemishes.
What is your favourite beauty treatment ?
I like to get my eyebrows threaded for that clean look, although it hurts like hell

Favourite foundation?
I use mac foundation for nights out but I usually wear Garnier BB cream during the day.

Favourite make up brand?
I love MAC foundations and lipsticks and then I use Urban Decay Naked eyeshadows.
Can’t live without?
Can’t live without mascara, feel naked without it, I use Loreal Teloscopic. I love Prada perfumes, especially the new Prada Candy!

If you had €200 what skin care or make up would you purchase?
If I had 200e to spend I’d buy a variety of mac and Urban Decay make up.

Does make up change how you feel about yourself?
While living in Dubai I barely wore any makeup during the day so it made me get used to looking at myself with no make up so I feel good with or without ( once mascara is involved:))

What skin care regime do you use morning & evening?
I’m pretty disciplined when it comes to my skincare regime, my Mum works for a beauty salon so I have been well trained to cleanse, tone and moisturize every morning and evening. I also use an eye cream at night and try to use a face scrub once a week and a face mask once a fortnight.

Do you use moisturiser? If so what do you use?
I do, I don’t have a particular favourite brand though. Generally once there fragrance free and use natural ingredients I’m happy. At the moment I’m using a moisturizer I bought at the blue lagoon in Iceland, it’s incredible.

Do you have a must have skin care item?
E45 cream, so simple but so brilliant. I use it all over after every shower, and it’s great for your face too if your skin is irritated after a day of makeup.

What is your favourite beauty treatment ?
Microdermabrasion. I get one every 6-8 weeks at Ealu Spa in Naas. It is a wonder treatment!

Favourite foundation?
MAC face and body, I don’t like makeup that is too thick with very strong coverage. Face and body is light and blends really well into the skin for a really natural finish. Any blemishes can be gone over then with concealer.

Favourite make up brand?
I’m a creature of habit so definitely MAC although I do love NARS too and Rimmel for really affordable great eyeliners, mascaras and lip pencils! That’s more than one…

Can’t live without?
Brow powder. I’ve had an eyebrow obsession for coming up to 4 years now. I started growing mine out about 4 years ago when I realized they were a really unflattering shape, I got a brochure for a spa close to where I live and slowly shaped them myself to look like the girl who was on the cover of it. Now I really appreciate a good set of brows and couldn’t live without them filled to perfection.

Love product?
GloThreaputics – amazing!

Leave product?
Pan Stick/blue eyeshadow, close call between the two.

If you had €200 what skin care or make up would you purchase?
I would probably pick up a nice pot of creme de la mer and stay forever young.

Does make up change how you feel about yourself?
I love nothing more than going makeup free, in fact makeup reminds me of work mostly. I used to love spending an hour or so doing my makeup to go out but now the second I start applying I can’t wait to be finished. I love makeup but its become a bit of a chore.

And lastly what’s your favourite make up look?
Anything with a red lip.

Bare minerals powder and mac brow gel

Love product? Mac lipliner in spice

If you had €200 what skin care or make up would you purchase?
I’d definitely invest in more dermalogica and as for makeup I’d stock up on my must have basics and also invest in items from Tom Fords range. Definitely quality over quantity, you pay for what you get

Creme de la mere – Just because I’d love to see what all the fuss is about and is it REALLY THAT AMAZING???

Does make up change how you feel about yourself?
Yes – Completely. I don’t get to do my makeup properly EVERY day as I have two small children, but when I do – I definitely feel alot better about myself and more confident.

And lastly what’s your favourite make up look?
For day time I love the natural look (natural foundation and accentuating the eyes)… For night wear , again I love natural looking foundation but more dramatic look with the eyes & lips. I love the smokey eye look.

Georgina Heffernan talks Makeup with Ann-Marie Carey

The glamourously gorgeous Georgina Heffernan, Author, Journalist and talented Milliner chats to me about make up and skin care.

Georgina Heffernan 01

What skin care regime do you use morning & evening?

Over the years, I’ve tried almost every product on the market but my favourite Eve Lom soap with a simple flannel;my skin feels just incredible after it. , I finish with by rubbing olive oil into my skin. For 20 years I have used nothing but olive oil in my beauty regime. I use it to remove my eye makeup and I use it to moisturise my face and body. It‘s free or chemicals, cheap and my skin always looks plump and dewy. If Olive oil does not suit your particular skin type – try almond oil or coconut oil.

Do you use moisturise? If so what do you use?

I moisturise with my home – made vitamin c cream. Vitamin C is proven to help prevent age spots and encourage collagen production. Great. But why can’t we just pop a few tablets – or even better, down a few oranges? Well, you can, but while your system will benefit, your skin receives a measly 2% of the nutrients you eat. That’s why Vitamin C is so popular in creams – taking this powerful ingredient straight from the pot on to your skin.Unfortunately, many of these face creams only contain very small amounts of the actual vitamin, so the potency of the product is greatly reduced. Also, vitamin C is very unstable and only remains active for a few days once it’s added to any lotion . If you make your own products fresh, you can make them in small three day doses that will work when the vitamin is most active – and powerful. My solution is to buy pure vitamin C powder on-line. You can a teaspoon to your regular day cream, Ionised water – or add it to vegetable glycerine, to create your own wonder potion. Try it for just a few weeks and you will be astonished at just how plump your skin becomes. Fine lines will vanish ( I swear I’m not making this up!) and your face will become much, much smoother. Honestly, it’s a wonder.

Do you have a must have skin care item?

The number one beauty secret for glowing skin is to drink plenty of water.

What is your favourite beauty treatment?

Botox – I’d do anything to look younger.

Favourite foundation?

Diorlight. The colors are a perfect match and the texture is so light and airy- it looks like real skin.

Favourite make up brand?

Chanel. The products are amazing but they’re so beautifully packaged they’re like little works of art.

Can’t live without?

My dermaroller. The needle-studded roller, reportedly loved by Angelina Jolie, works by puncturingthe face with 0.5-1.5mm pins, causing it to bleed and stimulating the body’s natural healing process. The idea is that this causes trauma to the outer layer and stimulates the repair process, boosting collagen production, which makes skin appear radiant .It has been dubbed the credit crunch laser and, although it sounds savage, it has become this year’s biggest beauty hit. I bought my New Spa Dermaroller online at eBay, for less than 50 euro and once it arrived, I immediately set to work rolling it across my poor unsuspecting face. Two weeks later, having used the Dermaroller twice weekly, I noticed that my skin was plumped up and my acne scars had been dramatically reduced. So, do I look like Angelina Jolie? Well, I’ll never have her lips or her husband BUT three weeks in and I am definitely one step closer to having her glowing complexion – my skin looks so much fresher and younger and my acne scarring is a thing of the past

Love product? Leave product?

Love-

If you want a long and healthy hair, you can use coconut oil instead of hair conditioner as women in India do. It helps both hair and skin. Use coconut oil to massage your scalp. Your hair will grow faster and will shine more.

Leave-

long fake lashes and long fake nails. They look nasty

If you had €200 what skin care or make up would you purchase?

I’ve always been a fan of the Clinique three step range because it makes your skin feel dramatically different, with a plumped up dewy look. It also lasts for ages , so it’s a good investment.

Does make up change how you feel about yourself?

It makes me feel more beautiful and confident.I like the way it can transform the way I look and I get to be creative with my appearance in a way that men never can

And lastly what’s your favourite make up look?

Marilyn Monroe’s famous pout wouldn’t have been the same without it. And Elizabeth Taylor’s beautiful smile would have lost much of its sex appeal. Forget diamonds, these girls best friend was, undoubtedly, and a tube of bright red lippy .

Today fashionistas Scarlett Johansson,Anne Hathaway, Dita Von Teese and young Georgia Jagger have brought the look back and are rarely seen without bright red lips. It’s my favourite make up look because it transforms your face and gives you an instant dash of glamour.

What skin care regime do you use morning & evening?
I use liz earls hot cloth face polish system, I only started using this product 3 months ago when I bought it at the Chelsea flower show but I love it! It’s an organic product and it smells amazing. I love the fact the muslin cloth system takes off all your make up and gently exfoliates your skin all in one go!
In the mornings I apply Olay regenerist 3 point super serum followed by Olay total effects 7 in one moisturiser with factor 15- it’s amazing!
I also use a Dermalogica anti aging eye cream.
In the evenings after cleansing I use Lumecin overnight Brightening Gluco treatment which helps with brown sun spots and the appearance of pore size.
Do you use moisturise? If so what do you use?
Olay total Effects 7 in one moisturiser with factor 15
Do you have a must have skin care item?
I am a big fan of face masks so every week I do Dermalogica multivitamin power recovery masque
What is your favourite beauty treatment ?
Jessica geleration manicures and pedicures at Ken Boylan Make up play. They only cost €25 for the manicure and it lasts 3 weeks so its excellent value and it really cheers me up having pretty nails!
Favourite foundation?
I don’t wear foundation I wear Clarins beauty flash balm with Rimmel match perfect concealer

Ken Boylan lipstick in Bambi
Love product?
Davines compact matifying primer- it’s a white powder compact that rids skin of shininess without any cakiness
Leave product?
Most of the high street BB creams- they are orange heavy and make skin way too shiny – they certainly don’t air brush skin as they promise!
If you had €200 what skin care or make up would you purchase?
Tom Ford make up I think the packaging is so luxe- it’s divine!
Does make up change how you feel about yourself?
Yes a strong red lip can totally transform the way you look and feel in an instant. If I feel rubbish and have no time to do my make up I will just apply red lippy and it always lifts my mood!
And lastly what’s your favourite make up look?
The natural look! I am big into eating healthily and that beauty comes from the inside out. you have to nourish your skin and body with wholesome natural foods if you want to have great skin. No amount of products can beat the effect of a “real” healthy glow!

Herbal Life review

This gorgeous little bottle of Herbal Life came in the post for me to try and I love it!
It’s scent is gorgeous and so refreshing straight after you wake up, after you shower, in the car, sitting at your desk or before you head out for a night out!

herbal life face quencher

What i love about these refreshing sprays or spritzers is that they redeem moisture back into my skin if I’ve been in an air conditioned or heated environment and they relive the tightness related to dry or dehydrated skin. Clients and brides love a little spray as part of the make up application process and this is going to be a welcome addition to my kit now.

Here’s the low down from Herbal Life:
Spritz on Radiant C Face Quencher to instantly cool and refresh water-starved skin. It’s a refreshing, fragrant, burst of moisture that acts like a natural “air conditioner.” It’s water-based so it won’t harm hairstyles or clothing, and it actually helps make-up stay fresher-looking.

Holly Shortall talks make up & Skin Care

I had the opportunity to chat with the Uber cool Holly Shortall.
I followed her progress with anticipation when she was a contestant on T.V. show “style wars”.
Holly’s style and love for the quirky and alternative fashion had me hooked for weeks!
Holly now a Fashion Illustrator with huge success doing Illustrations of Irelands Top Fashion pack and Iconic Imelda May & Victoria Beckham along with one of Ireland’s most successful beauty/fashion bloggers Joanne Larby”The Make Up Fairy”.
Holly is also a visual supervisor for gap but going part time in September to pursue her illustration dream even further.

Here I ask Holly about her favourite make up products and skincare too:

What skin care regime do you use morning & evening?

I use johnsons face wipes at night to get rid of the days make up. followed by a vichy night cream. The air conditioning where I work is not great so in the morning I use the wipes again to wake me up and then a light Astral moisturiser for under my make up.

Do you use moisturise? If so what do you use?

See above!

Do you have a must have skin care item?

Has to be Johnson’s wipes, some wipes you get are barely wet so you have to use several and really drag them across your face, so these are fab. Oh and also suncream! I haven’t gotten burnt in a few years now it’s just not worth it. My mums always kept her face out of the sun and you can tell, her skin is amazing!

What is your favourite beauty treatment ?

Has to be a manicure, I love a round French manicured nail- very sophisticated!

Favourite foundation?

Vichy Dermablend, it’s amazing!

Favourite make up brand?

I love MAC, there really is no competition their lipsticks, eye shadows and powders are just amazing.

Can’t live without?

My eyebrow pencil. I genuinely despair at photos of me from before the eyebrow trend kicked off!

Love product?

Catrice Nail Varnish (€2.99) I have almost every colour! They literally dry in 10 seconds and last ages.

Leave product?

Maybeline potted gel eyeliner. I used this once to do a cats eye flick and two hours later my whole eyelid was black! It just doesn’t dry- so I binned it.

If you had €200 what skin care or make up would you purchase?

I’d go into the fabulous Elaine in MAC on Henry St, let her work her magic on me by creating whatever look she wanted and then purchase all of the products used. I’d also love to see what all the Creme De La Mere fuss is about

Does make up change how you feel about yourself?

100%! For me It’s like coffee: I’m just not myself without it! If I woke up late for work Id forgo breakfast for 5 more minutes to do my make up.

And lastly what’s your favourite make up look?

I love a strong arched brow, big black cats eye flick and a bright pink matt lip. A modern take on a classic fifties look.
